The Southernmost Fjord of Europe

The fishing Gerakas Port Village in Southern Greece, has been built around a natural harbor. The only fjord in Greece, it was first dwelled during the Neolithic Age. During Byzantine times there was a naval station for fighting the Saracens pirates. Later, it became a hideout for pirates. Today is an anchorage for boats that want to avoid storms.
In essence, it is a lagoon with a narrow entrance from the sea, which has been described as the southernmost fjord of Europe.
Arriving at the village, I can admire the view of the harbor and the small island. Walking on the waterfront, I observe the architecture of Greek islands, characterized by white houses with blue doors and windows.
The site is protected by the NATURA 2000 Network, as it has a rich ecosystem untouched by tourist development, and it remains unknown to many people. Here is a home for herons and wild swans. At the time of bird emigration, the lagoon is full of feathered visitors. They are stationed here, while travelling south. Inside the lagoon, bumbing from sea life, there are crabs, shrimps, sorghums, dragonflies and lobsters.
Here is a destination for those who love Nature, and quiet places.

ΦΩΤΟΓΡΑΦΙΖΟΝΤΑΣ ΤΗ ΣΙΩΠΗ ΤΗΣ ΛΙΜΝΗΣ
Η Λίμνη στη Βουλιάστα Ηπείρου.

Μια τοποθεσία ειδυλλιακή, η λίμνη με το πιο κρυστάλλινο νερό που έχω δει ποτέ. Τροφοδοτεί τον ποταμό Λούρο, για αυτό είναι γνωστή σαν Πηγές του Λούρου. Εξαιτίας ενός γεωλογικού φαινομένου, από πάμπολλα σημεία του πυθμένα αναβλύζει διαρκώς νερό.
Ένα δρομάκι κάνει το γύρο της λίμνης. Ο περίπατος είναι μαγευτικός, με τις αντανακλάσεις των δέντρων να μπερδεύονται με τη χλωρίδα του βυθού της λίμνης.

Vouliasta Lake, Epirus

An idyllic location, it is the lake with the crystal clearest water I've ever seen. It gives water to the Louros River, which is why it is known as Louro's Sources. Because of a geological phenomenon, water rises from many parts of the bottom.
An alley makes the lap of the lake. The walk is magical, with the reflections of the trees messed with the flora of the bottom of the lake.

Στο Σιδηροδρομικό Σταθμό του Άργους.

Ο Σιδηροδρομικός Σταθμός του Άργους, στεγάζεται σε ένα κτίριο που κτίστηκε πριν το 1900 και γνώρισε ιδιαίτερη άνθιση μέχρι το 1960. Ο Σταθμός αποτέλεσε τον κεντρικό σύνδεσμο διακίνησης ανθρώπων και προϊόντων από και προς την Αθήνα και το λιμάνι του Πειραιά, για περισσότερο από έναν αιώνα. Σήμερα, στέκει έρημος. Το όμορφο κτίριο δεν έχει χάσει τη γοητεία του. Περπατώντας παράλληλα με τις ράγες, φτάνω στις αποθήκες. Τρένα γερασμένα, ακίνητα, σκουριασμένα. Αναρωτιέμαι αν η λέξη γράφεται με -ε ή με -αι. Ίσως η παλιά γραφή να αφορά μόνο τα γερασμένα τραίνα. Παλιό τραίνο, παλιά γραφή.


 Railway Station Argos, is housed in a building that was built before 1900. The Station has been the central link for the transportation of people and goods to and from Athens and the port of Piraeus for more than a century. Today, it is abandoned. The beautiful building has not lost its charm. Walking alongside the rails, I reach the warehouses of the station. Trains are old, immovable, rusty, almost abandoned.
